Impact - Helping Students in Need
The First Day Project is organized to help provide school supplies to nearly 25,000 students who qualify for Free & Reduced Lunch status based on financial need. 2015-16 Free & Reduced numbers in QC area school districts & percent of districts' population: Bettendorf CSD (1,493) - 33%, Davenport CSD (9,957) - 66%, Moline CSD (3,771) - 41%, Pleasant Valley CSD (402) - 9%, Rock Island/Milan CSD (4,631) - 67%.
Another member of the First Day Project is the First Day Fund Inc. an organization of community volunteers that serves students in Carbon Cliff, Colona, East Moline, Hampton, Port Byron, and Silvis public schools as well as United Township High School. They are working to serve 5,197 students for 2016. The 2015-16 F&R percentage for the schools served by First Day Fund Inc. - 76%.
The First Day Project – Quad-City Wide School Supply Drive was established in 2006 as a way to coordinate and enhance school supply collections taking place in different Quad City communities. School districts involved include Bettendorf, Davenport, East Moline area schools, Moline, Pleasant Valley and Rock Island.
While the First Day Project helps serve QC area schools, some school districts still have city specific efforts to raise additional funds and supplies to help meet their needs ie. First Day Fund Inc. and Rock Island/Milan - First Day Fund.
Over the years other community partners and businesses have joined in the project. In addition we have businesses partner as collection sites or sponsored employee collections for the project.
